unwanted pregnancyHaters gonna hate but we are loving the result of Taylor Swift’s countersuit against former radio host David Mueller for alleged assault and battery. In just four hours the jury came back with a verdict in favor of Taylor Swift.

Her trial will bring to the forefront the continued cry of women who have been assaulted but yet never believed.

About 1 in every 20 women in the U.S. experience sexual assault, including unwanted sexual contact. 1 out of 5 women in the U.S. will be raped at some point in her life according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.

Sexual assault is often a crime many women feel ashamed to report because of social stigma that she was somehow to blame. 63% of sexual assaults aren’t reported. And on college campuses, more than 90% of victims do not report being sexually assaulted. Being touched inappropriately or touching someone’s body without consent is wrong.

Taylor Swift accused Mueller of groping her at a meet-and-greet event in June. He is required to pay a symbolic $1 to Swift. Taylor immediately let it be known that this fight was for her “and anyone who feels silenced by sexual assault”.

We hope that her courage to speak up will be an inspiration to all young women who may have been groped at a bar, assaulted on campus or date raped.
