About a year ago, my university had a huge soccer win. Like the kind of win that will be talked about for years to come. Afterward, the stands went crazy celebrating. And I mean crazy.
Everyone rushed the field, climbing on goal posts, drinks were being poured on players and non-players alike, it was complete mayhem. To continue the celebration, an afterparty began at one of the player’s houses that my friends and I attended, where a different kind of celebrating took place.
About a week later, one of my friends made an appointment at our local women’s clinic for a free STI test. She said she wasn’t feeling that well and thought she caught some virus. Well, long story short, that “virus” wasn’t one at all, but genital herpes.
It turns out, she had herpes for a while, and it’s been lying dormant, until now. According to the clinic, “it is possible to spread herpes even when you are not showing symptoms.” To add to it, she had to tell that guy that she was with the night of the big game, that he also might have herpes, and go to the clinic for a free test and treatment.
Even though she swears she always uses a condom, they do not remove the risk of herpes completely, or any STI for that matter. Instead, it is always safe to get tested right away if you think you might have caught something.
If you are worried about the possibility of having contracted an STI, get a free STI test today. It’s time to take control of your health and your future. Aspire Women’s Clinic has been serving women in Southwest Florida and specifically Lee County and Collier County for over 20 years.
