A funny thing happens when you think you’re about to lose everything…
Hurricane Irma made us all feel like our Southwest Florida world was about to come to an end. We packed up everything that was precious to us and braced for the worst. Times of high anxiety like that can make you think about what and WHO is really important to you.
Some of us didn’t know when we’d get to see our significant other again as evacuations began and I-75 craziness had us all stressed out. #IRMAGEDDON went viral for a reason.
Some of us were lucky enough to evacuate with them, and many more of us stayed to go through the storm together.
Now, I know this is kind of gross to think about – but even with no showers, power, or water, historically people find comfort in sex with their partner during a disaster. When our adrenaline is racing and cortisol levels are high in our brains we do impulsive things; things we wouldn’t do if there wasn’t, you know, a hurricane.
What you don’t think about in those heated moments is the responsibility that sex carries. You don’t sit and think through your five-year life plan and make logical choices. You just react to the moment, and many times the moment has unplanned results.
A lot of times after a big natural disaster hits there is a boom of unplanned pregnancies from women and men who chose to comfort themselves with each other.
In the weeks ahead, if you had an “oops” moment and realize that now you’re facing one of those unplanned pregnancies, come and see us. Aspire Women’s Clinic is always willing to hear you out about how you’re feeling; especially if you’re not ready to share the news quite yet.
