Understanding Florida’s Abortion Law
Florida’s abortion law changed significantly on May 1, 2024. Abortion is now prohibited once a pregnancy reaches 6 weeks of gestational age, with exceptions for specific circumstances such as documented rape and incest or to save the woman’s life.
This makes confirming your pregnancy and verifying gestational age more time-sensitive than ever before.
A pregnancy test can confirm you are pregnant, but it cannot tell you how far along you are. Only an ultrasound can verify gestational age, and that information directly affects what options are available to you.
Aspire Women’s Clinic provides no-cost, confidential, limited OB ultrasounds so you can get that information as quickly as possible. We’ll also provide thorough information on your options to help you make a decision grounded in the facts.
What Else the Law Covers
Florida law prohibits obtaining abortion-inducing drugs from any source other than a licensed medical provider. An ultrasound must also be completed at least 24 hours before beginning a medical abortion, in person, by the physician who is prescribing the drugs.
Online or mail-order sources do not meet these legal requirements. What’s more, they open you up to additional risk, as the origin of these drugs often cannot be verified, and there is a lack of medical oversight.
Additionally, if you are considering traveling out of state for an abortion, it is important to know that follow-up care would need to take place with the same provider. If complications arise, having a provider far away can create serious health risks.
If You Started the Abortion Pill and Changed Your Mind
The abortion pill is a two-step process. If you have taken the first drug and are having second thoughts, you may still have time to act.
We can provide urgent help during our open hours. If we’re unavailable, you can visit abortionpillreversal.com to chat or call their 24/7 Helpline at 1-877-558-0333 to learn more about abortion pill reversal and get connected to a provider. The sooner the process begins, the greater the likelihood of continuing the pregnancy.
